India's plan against climate change!
India's national plan against climate change was launched by prime minister Dr. Manmohan singh. This plan aims at boosting solar power generation in the country besides launching seven other programs in mission mode towards Green house gas reduction and adaptation to inevitable climate change.
Key elements of the " National plan against climate change" are
- Solar energy boost - 1000 MW solar power by 12th plan end.
- Savings of 10,000MW by 2012 through energy efficiency.
- Industries like steel, power, textile to trade in energy efficiency targets.
- Minimum target of 5% renewable energy for power grids to procure on competitive basis.
- Nuclear power part of climate mitigation package.
- Critical data to be digitized; sharing and access made easier.
- Recycling from automobiles at the end of their life.
- 5000MW coal thermal power plants to be closed by 12th plan.
